Who Was St Mary Magdalene?

To some people who have never read the bible, St. Mary Magdalene is just another name in the bible. However, to those who are passionate about their religion and want to find out more and research non-stop, Mary is much more than meets the eye. Christians consider her a Saint for all her good deeds after being saved from sin by Jesus Himself.

It is said that Mary was a troubled woman, a sinner like all humans. And when she met Jesus, He showed her the way and cleansed her of her sins, the seven demons (Luke 8:2 and Mark 16:9), giving her a new outlook on life.

Christians love Mary Magdalene from all over the world because she was one of the few people who traveled with Jesus when He was alive. And as a trusty follower, making her one of the first-ever Christians. She was also a witness when Jesus was crucified. Finally, and most importantly, she was the first to discover Him alive and well, after his resurrection, on Easter morning.

Jesus told her outside of his tomb, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” (John 20:17)

Why Is Mary Magdalene Important to Christianity?

St. Mary Magdalene is essential to Christianity for a multitude of reasons. First, she is remembered as one of the first people in the world to be cleansed of her sins by Jesus Himself and therefore saved.

More than that, people praise her for her courage to stand next to Him and for choosing to follow Him, despite the troubled times when Christianity was illegal and viewed as a crime. She is also praised for remaining a loyal Christian, even after Jesus rose to the Almighty Father on Easter day.

The second reason she is remembered and mentioned in the Bible is that she was the first person who discovered Jesus was missing when she went to anoint the body. Two other women accompanied her. She also announced to the Apostles that He ascended to God. Making her the first person to speak to Jesus after His death.

Ultimately, because of her, people found out about Christ’s Tomb being empty and that He has risen. She became the “embodiment of Christian devotion,” as most people nowadays call her.

Also known as the “preacher of the good news,” St. Mary Magdalene will always be associated with the happy Easter day. When Jesus was resurrected and ascended to the skies above to be with God.

In addition, she will always be remembered as the sinner who was freed, one of the first followers of Jesus. The woman who spent her entire life being a loyal Christian, even after His death and rising.

What Does Mary Magdalene Teach Us?

St. Mary Magdalene is the most exciting follower of Jesus. However, she teaches many valuable lessons, even now, when she is long gone. The most important lesson she taught humankind is never to be afraid to love Jesus.

Even when times were tough, and she knew she could be sentenced to death for loving Jesus Christ, she never stopped. He showed her the path to enlightenment and freed her from her sins. And from that moment on, she was a true believer, loyal until the end.

“But at daybreak on the first day of the week [the women] took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. But when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”

(Luke 24:1-3) Although she was heartbroken about Jesus Christ’s passing, she chose to honor Him, even after His death, like a devout Christian. And this lesson teaches us that serving God is never in vain, for He has a plan for all of us.

St. Mary Magdalene shows Christians everywhere that you must be persistent and walk with love when you follow Jesus. As mentioned before, when Jesus was alive, He and His disciples had to face terrible obstacles.

They were persecuted, shouted at, and ridiculed. Some believers even lost faith, but Mary Magdalene never did. She is still the embodiment of strength, love, and persistence because she stood close to Jesus. Even when it was too dangerous.

What Is the Most Valuable Lesson Taught by Mary Magdalene?

The most valuable lesson St. Mary Magdalene taught was never to be afraid of anything as long as you have faith that God will save your soul. Don’t be scared of what people think; never try to impress others by hiding your trust in Him.

Even when she saw the tomb was empty, the angels told her, “Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee. The Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day.’ And they remembered his words,” (Luke 24:6-8) she never once questioned His plan.

She knew God was more significant than anyone and His way was the only way. She knew people would potentially judge or not believe her when she told them about Jesus Christ’s resurrection.

Still, she was never scared because she knew the only person who was allowed to judge her. And the only one who had the right to do so was God Himself. And God loves all of His children. Therefore, no matter what people might think of you, do not question God’s way.

Mary Magdalene teaches that as long as you follow God and spread kindness, love, and compassion to all around you. Without expecting them to do the same or fearing they may judge you. If you do this, you have earned your place alongside God’s beloved followers.
